Clearly, food is pretty high on my agenda when I travel. Street food is one of the most genuine ways to eat in any country, although it is also an area where caution is often advised. During my trip to Istanbul last year I spent a fabulous day getting to know the local food scene on a food tour with Istanbul Eats. The tour led us through many of the back streets and in and out of stores and cafes that are not generally on the tourist map. We wound up in the Kurdish part of town, passing this vendor with his cart full of barbecued sheeps heads. This was a treat I managed to resist – I was heading to a restaurant for lunch, after all.
