Wish You Were Here Postcards – Gargoyles, Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris

by Amanda McInerney on 28/05/2014

The detail on and in Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is simply astonishing and it is awe-inspiring to think about the craftsmanship that went into this iconic building. I’ve visited this Cathedral several times, but suspect it would take many years to note and appreciate every single detail of this beautiful cathedral. Approaching it from the rear, I was struck again by the consideration given to every aspect of it’s appearance and how it was designed to impose wonder, respect and just a little dread into the hearts of the Parisians.

Very impressive indeed! The best gargoyles I’ve ever seen are on a church here in Australia, they’re sheep- so quirky! X

I think you’d need to live in Paris and visit every day to notice every bit of the architecture above and below ground. I was amazed at how ‘sooty’ the interior of the cathedral was. It definitely needed a good clean the last time I visited. :)

It’s absolutely incredible to think that this building was built all those hundreds of years ago. How did they do it? I wonder what the OH & S rules were back then for the workers! xx

Just incredible, I’m envious of your experiences. It’s sad they just don’t make buildings like this anymore.
