In My Kitchen – September 2016

02/09/2016 | By

I’m enjoying more cookbooks & some great local beverages in my kitchen this month. What’s in yours?

cookbooks in my kitchen

I’ve been a little spoiled in the last few weeks, so have some lovely local produce and a new pile of cookbooks in my kitchen this month. This delicious selection of food books was sent to me a few weeks back by Murdoch Books. I’ve had my nose deep in “Ferment, Pickle, Dry” which is fantastic and full of useful techniques and recipes. My feathers were a little ruffled by the second volume down in the pile as I wondered if my friends at Murdoch were hinting something, but they assure me that is not the case. It is certainly full of some delicious recipes and I’ll be sharing my thoughts on all of these soon.

Local beers & ciders In My Kitchen

I’m keeping hydrated with this selection of hand crafted Adelaide Hills beverages which appeared in my kitchen last month. A gift from The Hills Cider Company, Mismatch Brewing Co., Ashton Valley Fresh and the award-winning Adelaide Hills Distillery. They are joining forces to create the ultimate Adelaide Hills eating and drinking destination which will open in 2017. I can’t wait!

in my kitchen spring affair at McLaren Val

Just in case my fluid levels were in peril the lovely folk at Paxtons Wines, Maxwell Wines and Coriole – all from the famous McLaren Vale wine region – sent me this little reminder of the joys of spring. Held over the October long weekend, the Spring Affair celebrates the season the best way they know how in McLaren Vale – with their spectacular wines, great local food and live music. The three wineries above are the hosting venues for the three day event and all the details can be found on the Spring Affair website.

With the weather finally warming up, the views in my kitchen are pretty spectacular – and this is what I’m looking at our of my kitchen window.  Not too shabby at all, is it?

Adelaide Hills in my kitchen

Of course it’s not all wine and roses in my kitchen – a mouse died under the floor and seems to be taking his time in moving on,  I’ve had the dishwasher repair man in my kitchen three times in the last month and my oven fan shorted out and burst into flames a couple of weeks back, but, you know – silver linings and all that – so I have a new oven!

Travelling extensively at present, so not much happening in the kitchen at home. Love that Spring is coming. Always enjoy seeing your IMK posts.

sounds like interesting times in your kitchen but I hope you are able to look out the window and enjoy the view every often – such a lovely photo! The cookbooks sounds like fun too – fermenting fascinates me though I am not very patient to do lots of fermenting

What a beautiful view! Oh the joys of home ownership, I find when something breaks multiple things break. Hopefully things are back to normal.
