Adelaide Eats – Tasting Australia 2017 Is Off and Running
The first annual instalment of Tasting Australia, the iconic food festival, is officially up and running – and, once again, Adelaide shows how it is done.
Okay Adelaide, it’s time to get your stretchy pants on – Tasting Australia 2017 has officially opened with a whole flame-cooked heifer on a giant frame, delicately smoked Coorong Mullet and special guest chef Marco Pierre White.
There is so much on this year’s Tasting Australia program, it’s hard to know where to begin, but the best place to start would be the full program website and then head to the Town Square. With free admission and open for lunch and dinner daily, the Town Square offers two delicious options.
Charred, where it really is all about the fire, is the street food centre of the festival with flame- grilled, wood-fired, roasted, toasted, smoked and charred beef, chicken, lamb, pizza and vegetables. Using only fire as a cooking method, vendors like Comida, The Henry Austin, Pizzateca and La Boca will offer plenty to keep the meat-lovers happy. There will also be gourmet grilled cheese toasties, slow roasted meats and vegetables and Asian-style wok dishes and a bombe Alaska – something for everyone.
Also in the Town Square is The Glasshouse Kitchen, the new showpiece restaurant of the festival, constructed from a series of stylishly themed glasshouses. Here a range of collaboration dinners, featuring local and international culinary stars including Marco Pierre White and Ana Ros (World’s Best Female Chef 2017), will showcase South Australian produce.
This year Tasting Australia extends into Rundle Mall with the Urban Pantry, a venue for local and regional South Australian food producers to showcase their products and share trade secrets. Guest speakers like Duncan Welgemoed from Africola and Sheree Sullivan from Udder Delights will also be available to offer their insights into food.
Tasting Australia is simply eight days of food heaven. With over 100 food, wine and beverage events it is making South Australia the ultimate food destination in the country.
