Airing this week in China, Chef Exchange is a culinary adventure which showcases South Australia’s finest to a whole new Chinese audience.
In just a couple of days over 90 million people in China will get the first glimpse of Chef Exchange, a unique television series showcasing the best of South Australian food and our regions.
The first episode in the visually splendid four-part series, which I was fortunate enough to view when it was launched here in Adelaide last week, will air on China’s Shandong- based Qingdao TV (QTV) from early April. A rare Australian-Chinese television collaboration, Chef Exchange is a culinary adventure featuring renowned Adelaide chef Jock Zonfrillo and highly respected Shandong chef Qu Jianmin. In 30 minute episodes it follows the two high-profile chefs as they explore each other’s food, culture and customs.
Chef Exchange explores what happens when two diverse cultures and languages combine through a shared passion and offers extraordinary benefits for South Australia’s food and tourism sectors with unprecedented exposure in Shandong, and possibly later in the rest of China.
The series was filmed on location across South Australia including the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Port Lincoln and throughout the City of Adelaide and Qingdao, Shandong Province in China, serving up the very best of South Australia to a whole new audience.
Produced by South Australian production company 57 Films, Chef Exchange features local primary producers such as Boston Bay Wines, Ferguson Australia Lobster, Hutton Vale Farm and Seppeltsfield Winery.
Bringing together two great chefs from the two regions strengthens the valuable 30-year sister city relationship between Adelaide and Qingdao. According to South Australian Arts Minister Jack Snelling “the dedicated airtime Chef Exchange devotes to telling South Australia’s stories to millions in Shandong is of immeasurable value and achieves a level of credible exposure for SA produce and regions which could not be duplicated through, for example an advertising campaign.”
The exceptional production values in the series are matched in every way by our great produce and beautiful regions. Chef Qu gets a taste of the Barossa Valley and Port Lincoln in the first episode. I can imagine the Chinese viewers will be simply squirming in their seats in envy at the scenery and more motivated than ever to get here to experience it for themselves.

Absolutely amazing. I am very proud to be South Australian. I love “You’ve had lamb in our land” great line. Hope it screens here.
What a great idea! Both can learn so much from each other. Loving all of these food documentaries that are around at the moment 🙂
What a brilliant concept. Love how the two chefs can learn so much from each other xx
