This week I have an exciting announcement for those of my readers who live in or near Adelaide! While it is great to read about how using fresh, local and organic produce and ingredients is best for both ourselves and our communities, sometimes we need to take in some facts and figures and be able to ask questions to get a full understanding of the issues. When it comes to preparing food, we often fall back on the same methods which we have always used without realising that we may be inadvertently compromising the nutrient levels in our meals and there are things we can do to avoid this. If you are interested in learning more about local, organic, seasonal cooking and eating and how it will benefit you and your family then I’d like to suggest that you come along to a special evening Local and Organic Workshop hosted by experienced Nutritionist and Chef Mel Haynes and myself at Homewares Direct, 91 Unley Road, Unley, on September 6 at 6.30pm.
Mel has very kindly invited me to help her host a workshop which will focus on the nutritional benefits of using fresh, organic produce prepared in ways to absolutely minimise the loss of nutrients which can occur – to a quite startling degree – from the various cooking and processing procedures that we all often use. While you enjoy a snack and a glass of wine, Mel will share her extensive knowledge on nutritional aspects of organic versus commercial produce and reasons to cut down on food processing. She will prepare several dishes to demonstrate techniques to maximise nutrient delivery, which you will all be able to share, and provide handouts with the recipes and some useful tips. We will discuss the advantages, not only to you and your families, but to the local community and the local economy of this approach to food and answer any questions you may have. We plan to make this an informative and enjoyable evening and I look forward to meeting some of my readers. For all the booking details on the Local and Organic Workshop (September 6, 6.30 pm) head over here, but be quick – numbers will be limited!
