The Adelaide Good Food and Wine Show – 10 double passes to be won!

Finally, the seasons seem to be on the turn, as winter backs reluctantly out the door and spring comes bouncing in, shedding her coat and flashing sunny smiles at us all.  Pastels are being seen again – both on people’s backs and in their gardens – and there are lots of excuses to get out of my uggies and out of the house!  One of the best of these is coming up very soon indeed – the Adelaide Good Food and Wine Show.

Held from 12-14 October at the Adelaide Showgrounds, this indulgent weekend is the perfect excuse to indulge in Adelaide’s passion for flavour with fine food, delectable cheeses, premium produce, and of course, award-winning South Australian wines. The involvement of South Australian businesses is overwhelming with Careme Pastry, Cocolat, Butch’s Smallgoods of the Riverland, Heavenly Delights, 4 leaf milling company, Pangkarra Foods, Vella Pasta, and many more participating in the delectable three day event.

Wine connoisseurs will be greatly satisfied with the heart of Australia’s wine region once again playing a huge part in the event, but it’s not just about the Barossa Valley, with several other local exhibitors including Woodstock Wines, Bleasdale Vineyards, and Majella Wines tingling wine lover’s palates. Several interstate wine companies will also be making their presence felt with Pakura Estate returning for its third year, after participating every year since the show’s 2010 inception.

This year will see the return of master classes and cooking demonstrations featuring favourites Manu Fieldel, George Columbaris, Matt Moran, and South Australia’s very own Maggie Beer.  James Laing, Exhibition Director of the Good Food & Wine Show says, “Adelaide is such a passionate state when it comes to food and wine, and it’s great to see so many local food and wine producers coming on board for the show.”

The scrumptious line-up at this year’s show will give visitors the chance to explore, indulge, and sample gourmet food, acclaimed local produce, luscious cheeses, and of course, award-winning South Australian wines – it’s an epicurean’s delight not to be missed.

    I love Haighs chocolates, a Balfours frogcake, Kangaroo Island honey (Ligurian), Golden North ice-cream, Menz Fruchocs, a cold Farmers Union iced coffee on a hot day, a steaming hot pie floater anytime!, Maggie Beer quince paste/ice-cream. I have had some of the best seafood in my life in South Australia… Amazing oysters, fish and cray! I also love the South Australian food shops Gaganis and Imma and Marios. Plus how can you get better than the Central Markets or the Farmers Market for food?

    Now for wines… Bird in Hand (anything goes down nicely!) and I also enjoy a glass (or bottle) of Wirra Wirra Pinot Noir. And then there’s Magill Estate and Penfolds Grange!

    I love B.-d. Farm Paris Creek’s Com’n Bear cheese with my home made quince paste (sourced from organic, locally grown quince trees), accompanied by a Bird in Hand sparkling pinot noir. Just delice!

    After recently spending 2 weeks holiday in NSW and an extensive amount of travelling be assured that there is nothing I am more happy about than being home in Adelaide. There is little to compare to the glorious food and wine available almost everywhere in SA.

    I love the vietnamese chicken from Bubble’n’Squeak at the Adelaide Showgrounds Farmers Markets. So moorish! Their Caramelised Onion Dip is also one of my favourites

    A very exciting giveaway Amanda – I like to think of the GFWS as the Royal Show for (food-loving) adults!

    My favourite local treat is Hills Feast Olive Pate. DIVINE. It’s made from Kalamata olives, specially pickled in a vinegar-free marinade, and handmade into pate by a passionate one man team based in Thebarton SA.

    Tip: if you want a taste, drop into Organik (Glenelg South), The Organic Market (Stirling), or order the Olive Bread at Goodlife Organic Pizza..

    Really can’t go past some of our awesome South Australian wine – Banrock Station is great for the planet as well as the palette. Closer to home, we swapped the family over to locally produced Tweedvale Milk and have not looked back. Totally worth supporting our local dairy farmers.
