What’s in the box 13/14 October

Mooch on over to here for this weeks list of contents.

It is unfortunate that the weather here in Adelaide is currently failing to acknowledge spring requiring me to huddle over the keyboard wrapped in a blanket!  Still – we need the rain so I mustn’t grumble!

It’s nice to see some more salad veggies creeping into the boxes with capsicums and cucumbers in ours this week and rocket in some small boxes.  Both Choi Sum and Bok Choy are around – in a limited fashion – this week and if you are not into stir-fry’s, they are both good chopped up and used as part of a mixed green salad.  I just love the way those little helpers at Food Connect share out the greens so that everyone gets a share of the new products, even though they are not around in great numbers yet – thanks guys!

The new seasons zucchini are lovely and we are loving ours sprinkled with some sea salt and plenty of fresh ground black pepper, tossed with cherry tomatoes in some olive oil and oregano fresh from the garden, then roasted.  Very noice!

The Cecile spuds are just beautiful this week.  For dinner last night I scrubbed, dried and chopped them into roughly 2 cm pieces, chopped some onions into biggish slices and tossed them with salt, olive oil and fresh rosemary (I planted lots of rosemary hedges, so we eat it quite a bit!) and roasted them at 180C for about 30 minutes.  Then I added chicken sausages cut into thirds, tossed it all again and put it back into the oven for another 20-30 minutes until the snags were done. Yum – sweet, caramelised onion, crunchy spuds and sausages.  Served with the zucchini and tomatoes from above – what’s not to like?!

yes, aren’t the ceciles are lovely. we like them steamed or boiled and dressed with butter, rosemary and these marvellous South Australian grown capers. Do you think they would make nice gnocchi?

Kate – Ditto for the weather here. It maxed out at 6C at our place yesterday!
Nesta – I think that you would be better off using a more floury potato for gnocchi, instead of the Ceciles.

Agree Amanda…, its lovely to see the salad vegs here at long last…, but I’m with you over this chilly spring…., we had snow here in Canberra yesterday! I love asian greens chopped finely into a salad & perched on top of a nice curry too.

Thanks for that dinner idea – we had it last night and believe it or not it got the full tick of approval! Now whats for tonight?

Tracey – not very inspired tonight. Just parmesan-crusted chicken and salad here.
Anna – mmm, a curry sounds good, too!
