My daughter took this photo from the roof top of the riad in which we stayed in Marrakech. The walls and many of the buildings of the old, fortified part of the city – the medina – were constructed of red sandstone, giving it the nickname “the red city”.
Tourism is an important part of the city these days, strongly supported by the current king, but it is a joy to look out over the medina and see such a traditional view of rooftops, carpets and mountains and the rich colours which I have always imagined embellish this ancient city.
