Muir Woods in Mill Valley, California, was designated a National Monument by President Roosevelt in 1908 to protect the old-growth coastal redwood forest from destruction. The age of the trees here ranges from 400 to 800 years and they are the tallest living things on earth. Being here is like being in a cathedral and the best thing about this very special spot is that it is only about 12 miles from San Francisco, making it very accessible. This dodgy photo was taken on my old point and shoot, but I just had to share such a special place.

Muir Woods is a beautiful place preserved to show future generation how the California coastline once was. I live not far from Henry Cowell park in Ben Lomond and big Basin where you can still find giant Sequoias.

Awesome! I’ve been told by lots about these awesome trees, even friends who I’d never thought to be tree hugging nature lovers say huge big old tree just make you quieten down & respect the feeling.
