In My Kitchen March 2016

04/03/2016 by Amanda

It’s time for In My Kitchen once again – the monthly roundup that takes a peek at my current kitchen treasures.

Fresh tomatoes In My Kitchen

I can’t say I’m sorry that it’s March and already the beginning of autumn. I’m not loving the hot weather (and, to be fair, it hasn’t shown us a lot of love) so I’ll be happy to welcome the cooler weather. Here’s what’s happening in my kitchen this month, for the full round-up do head over to Maureen’s blog The Orgasmic Chef.

I’m happy to report that I’ve outsmarted my dogs this year and managed to position the tomato plants in an area they can’t reach to graze upon them. I only planted two bushes – a miniature roma and a slightly larger version of a cherry tomato – but they’ve gone gangbusters. We’ve eaten quite a lot of tomato salads and I semi-dried a big batch of them and packed them in olive oil, saving them for later in the year. I still have more to use up and can see a simple tomato sugo in my future.

fresh home-laid eggs In My Kitchen

My new flock of chickens have now hit their straps and the four of them are laying an egg a day, most days. It is such a joy to have our own eggs again – and enough to share with friends too.

In My Kitchen, new baking toys

I was in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago and, during a wander through the Victoria Markets, found a new bakeware store. You’d think after all my years on this planet that I’d have enough baking toys, but apparently not. My heart leapt when I saw these off-set spatulas (I know – sad, isn’t it?) and I bought some bulk muffin cases and a couple of silicon mats for my daughter, another baking tragic.

February SALife magazine In My Kitchen

I’m terrifically proud to have the current edition of the respected SALife Magazine in my kitchen this month. Inside the February issue is my first ever article for the magazine, with the next to be found in the March edition (out soon). There are more to follow later in the year and I’m thrilled to bits about it.

Congratulations on your article in the magazine, Amanda! Well done you. When it comes to buying more cookware, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.

Congratulations on the SA Life article Amanda. It looks fantastic! And I’m the same when it comes to new baking equipment or any kitchen equipment for that matter. There’s always a new tool to add to the collection. 🙂

Congratulations from me too – an article in a magazine like this is fantastic. I go nuts at the Queen Vic markets so I understand.

Congratulations on the article, and on successfully keeping the tomato plants away from the dogs 🙂 It’s so good having your own eggs isn’t it. Our chickens stopped laying for a week and I actually had to buy some *gasp* I much prefer my own.

Oh dear – it was probably not a good idea to read this before I head over to Melbourne tomorrow! Perhaps I could just stay away from the Victoria Markets……..????

I am the same as you cant go past a baking shop or the things in it. I am glad you have found somewhere else to deposit your words… you always construct them so damn well!

Great article Amanda. Love your fresh eggs & tomatoes – why were the dogs eating your tomato plants? I didn’t think they’d like them! I’m the same when it comes to cookbooks, as you are with baking tools – see something I don’t have, I must have it 🙂 #IMK x
