This is my first glimpse of one of the Great Lakes – Lake Ontario. I was travelling on VIA Rail Canada on my way from Montreal to Toronto.
Train travel is one of the best ways to see a country the size of Canada and on VIA Rail I fortunately did it in style in a private sleeping cabin. The train hurtles along at breakneck speed, but there is always plenty to see out the panoramic windows. Lake Ontario is one of the five Great lakes which form the largest group of freshwater lakes on Earth. The weather was sunny and clear on the day I travelled during the northern summer but, even so, the horizon was almost indistinct through the mist on the waters.

I think train travel would be lots of fun. I’ve always wanted to take the train from Alice Springs to Adelaide but the price! Your image of the lake looks stunning xx

I’ve only traveled by train in Europe but crossing Canada by train would be fantastic!
