When it comes to luxury farm stays, Alla Wolf-Tasker’s team at Dairy Flat Lodge offers a taste of country living the way we’d all like it.
For over 30 years The Lake House at Daylesford in Victoria has been a bench-mark for luxury accommodation and culinary distinction. However, with the new addition of Dairy Flat Lodge, adjacent to Dairy Flat Farm, The Lake House team has totally raised the bar for luxury farm stays in Australia.
The contribution by the Wolf-Taskers and the Lake House to the regional food offering in Daylesford cannot be overestimated – they created a market for growers, nurtured them and significantly contributed to the building of the local community. Three years ago the Wolf-Taskers established Dairy Flat Farm on what had been bare paddocks. This farm, built on the regenerative agriculture principles that Alla Wolf-Tasker has long supported in the region, now grows a dizzying array of produce using permaculture principles and integrated pest management, without the use of any herbicides or weedicides.
With farm supervisor Glen Ockwell on the ground (in every literal sense of the word), over the course of four seasons the 38 acre Dairy Flat Farm produces 200 different vegetables, including a diverse range of leafy greens and approximately 25 varieties of heirloom tomatoes. These, along with their olive grove, apple and pear orchard, bee hives and extensive flower beds are what supplies their famous Daylesford Lake House restaurant, but without competing with their local traditional suppliers. This farm is to supplement regional fresh food offerings – not to undermine them.
Just over 12 months ago (roundabout Covid time ?) Alla Wolf-Tasker and her family launched a glorious new take on luxury farm stays – Dairy Flat Lodge. Nestled amid the Dairy Flat Farm vineyard and just a stroll through the gate to the farm, this private, concierge-serviced, luxury lodge is ideal for those keen to experience farm life – at a comfortable remove. I was able to get a sneak peek at this gorgeous accommodation and came away making big plans. ?
The lodge offers beautifully gracious indoor living areas, outdoor facilities which include a fire pit area, a hot tub and extensive gardens, a gourmet kitchen, and sleeps up to 12, in a variety of stunningly curated suites with truly special luxury bathrooms. It’s available for private groups or individual stays, and can be booked exclusively for larger groups, which gives guests private enjoyment of the entire premises – including the onsite bakery.
Your stay (and mine, just as soon as I can wangle it – I love a bit of luxury) will include an onsite concierge, full daily housekeeping, cooked breakfasts daily, daily fresh-baked artisan breads and pastries from the onsite bake house, pantry staples, access to bikes, fishing rods, indoor and outdoor games – and a stocked bar with local offerings.
Guests can also opt to have a a gourmet meal prepared for them at the lodge, by one of the Lake House chefs, and priority booking at the Lake House restaurant.
Dairy Flat Lodge offers a taste of country living the way we’d all like it – exclusive, luxurious, with every requirement anticipated and catered for. When it comes to luxury farm stays, Alla and her team have totally got your back.
