I predict lots of February cookbook club fun with this month’s selection – and read on to discover what we have coming up in March!
Well – in (more) scary news, January 2025 is over! It was a big month in the Lambs Ears Cookbook Club, but I suspect this month will be even more busy. This month we launch into heaps of February cookbook club fun with our second selection for the year, Recipetin Eats Tonight by Nagi Maehashi. Many of you will remember that we explored her first cookbook, “Recipetin Eats Dinner”, back in November 2022 and it was a big hit with pretty much everyone.
Nagi designed Recipetin Eats Tonight to provide great meal ideas that you can have on the table tonight – this is definitely food for busy people. Many of these recipes make use of pantry staples, thus avoiding the dreaded last-minute trip to the store, and all are super versatile and (of course) rigorously tested by Nagi to ensure that they will work for you.
The chapters are divided into clever sections covering different aspects of meal requirements, including fast meals, favourites, what you have on hand etc, and each recipe is clearly written, with the steps laid out, a generous “notes” section and a QR code for anyone who wants a how-to video to help things along. Honestly, she couldn’t make meal prep any easier for us. This February cookbook club fun selection is destined to become a fixture on most of our shelves.
What did we cook in January?
Alice Zaslavsky’s “Salad for Days” was hugely popular in the cookbook club in January – just as I knew it would be. Heaps of exciting, inventive salads graced our summer tables, as you all leapt into this cookbook joyfully. And that’s just how Alice likes it. Here’s a few of the dishes that our busy members shared. To see a full range of what we cooked in January, head to our Facebook page.
Roasted beets with spiced walnuts and Georgian garo from Cheryl Turner
Rock ‘n’ roll salad with plum dressing and crispy bits from Karyn Hearn
Carmel Demery’s Charred corn, cos and tomatoes with paprika chilli mayo
Sherry Mackay’s Gurkensalat
So what’s happening in March?
To my shock, I discovered that it’s been ages since we featured a dedicated sweet cookbook in the Lambs’ Ears Cookbook Club – so I’m rectifying that in March by selecting Claire Saffitz’ What’s for Dessert. Many of you will have heard of Claire, the bestselling author of Dessert Person, and the host of the YouTube series “Dessert Person”.
What’s for Dessert is her second book, and it features lots of make-ahead, no bake, and simple stove top desserts, while still combining Claire’s trademark of dependable recipes with wow-factor ingredient combinations. This book has lots of recipes for easy cakes, baked desserts, frozen treats, and puddings and custards – heaps of dishes to make your family love you even more than they do now.
To make your life that little bit easier, I’ll allow recipes shared from Claire’s YouTube channel, but I’d urge you to get a hold of this book. It’s been out for a few years now, so should be easy to get from your library if finances don’t stretch to another purchase.
I’m looking forward to treating myself as much as possible in March, but for now I’m absolutely looking forward to the February cookbook club fun of exploring Recipetin Eats Tonight – so let’s get cooking!
