Yay, spring produce is appearing – it’s the perfect time to expand our understanding of plant-based eating, with “A Plant-Based Farmhouse” from Cherie Hausler.
Welcome to September in the Lambs’ Ears Cookbook Club and our new monthly selection, “A Plant-Based Farmhouse” by Cherie Hausler!
I’m excited for this month as it’s the first time we have featured an entirely plant-based cookbook, and this one is a bit special because it’s a local South Australian book.
Regardless of your food preferences, I just know that you will find plenty to love in this book. Cherie’s food is hearty, wholesome and – most importantly – accessible. Plant-based eating for some suggests the buying a lot of over-processed commercial products, but Cherie’s recipes show you how to add more of these dishes into your family repertoire with very little hassle. Her recipes cover every dining option – baking, salads, family meals, sweet treats – in such a sensible, low-fuss way that your family will barely notice the difference in food content. However, they will definitely notice the increase in deliciousness.
I really hope that you have managed to get your hands on this month’s plant-based cookbook – it’s a lovely publication and really deserves your attention.
What Did We Cook in August?
August was a bit of a non-starter for me and cooking. I was still away in the UK for the first couple of weeks, and when I arrived home and had recovered from the jet lag I suddenly found myself lining up for some unexpected hand surgery. It wasn’t a huge operation, but it has put me out of action in the kitchen for a bit. Fortunately our enthusiastic cookbook club members stepped up and have shared some of the lovely dishes from “Now & Then” by Tessa Kiros.
Do Tell Me About October!
October’s cookbook selection comes to us as a suggestion from one of our members. She directed my attention to Chelsea Goodwin’s “$10 Meals with Chelsea” (RRP $36.99). To be honest, I hadn’t heard of her, but I do know that many of us are looking to tighten our belts as the cost of living spirals (and as the supermarket duopoly here in Australia announces obscene profits). Goodwin is a single mother of three, so would definitely know about the struggles of feeding a family economically.
She is the creator of the $10 Meals Australia Facebook group, which has plenty of recipes freely available (my hint – join!), and has now released the corresponding cookbook. It is full of delicious, family-friendly, and affordable food. Each recipe is easy to make and feeds at least four people, and the meal plans work out at around $2.50 per serve. That’s a whole week of generous dinners for just $70! I’ve checked, and the cookbook is also available as an eBook so, along with her free recipes on the Facebook group, this is all very accessible. Make sure you get your hands on “$10 Meals with Chelsea” for October.
In the meantime – let’s explore some delicious plant-based recipes from Cherie in September.
