Wish You Were Here Postcards – Flower Seller, Sofia, Bulgaria

18/06/2014 by Amanda

Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, has an ancient history that goes back 2,500 years. In the heart of the city, nestled in the remains of  the ancient Thracian settlement of Serdica, is the Church of St George – the oldest building in Sofia and the scene of a very embarrassing tourist gaffe on my part. I had wandered about, appreciating the ruins of Serdica which surround the church, making my way around to the arched gateway which is the entrance to the church. This sweet old lady was sitting outside, putting together posies of wildflowers to sell – presumably to rubber-neckers like myself.

Without any thought and with a great deal of noisy fumbling of the great door to the church I, quite literally, stumbled in – right into the middle of a baptism. Thrilled to find such an ancient building still in regular use and horrified at my blunder I blushed furiously and hastily exited, purchasing a posy on my way out.

Hahaha… Straight out of a rom com stumbling into a baptism like that. LOL! Oh to see your face when you looked up at the peeps staring right back at you. 🙂 Far out… Awkward!
Lovely pic, I have one similar on my fridge, but of a man holding a posy for someone we can’t see.

Ahhh Bulgaria. The memories 🙂 And if it’s any consolation, I bet noone even remembers your entrance – all eyes on the baby 🙂
