We are cooking from Salamati for February, but if you’re wondering what the cookbook of the month for March is, read on … And check out some of the fab food our cookbook club delivered in January!
Wow – January was quite a hit among our cookbook addicts! Our cookbook of the month, More Fish, More Veg by Tom Walton, generated heaps of interest and some pretty amazing meals. It’s a superbly versatile book, with loads of recipes that will suit vegetarian and vegans, as well as plenty of delicious dishes that can feature as a stand-alone main dish, or as the support act for some protein. I’ve found a couple that will be a regular feature on our table – I hope you did too!
As featured in my January cookbook club post, the cookbook of the month for February is Salamati by Hamed Allahyari and Dani Valent. It’s a fabulous collection of Persian food – which is one of my favourite cuisines. I urge you to take the plunge and get hold of a copy of this book, especially if this is a new food experience for you. These dishes are simple, flexible and just bursting with flavour, and – as Hamed is resident in Australia – designed to suit the Australian kitchen.
Don’t forget that you will find some of his recipes online, you can purchase an ebook copy of this cookbook to use in full colour on your iPad or tablet, or you can rush out and buy it for your collection. Any way you get hold of it, I just know that dishes like the classic Fessenjun (walnut and pomegranate chicken stew), Baghali Polow Ba Mahiche (broad bean pilaf with lamb shanks), Tompom Salad (think about it), the amazingly herby Dadami Dip, and the perfect Persian Love Cake are all going to becoming our new favourites in the coming month.
The cookbook of the month for March is going to make a lot of you very happy. It’s been a long time coming, especially given that I’m a South Australian girl, but it really is well past time that we explored some of Maggie Beer’s cookbook writing. So I’ve chosen Maggie’s Harvest as the March selection.
First published in 2007 and now also available in paperback, this is Maggie’s classic tome. Bringing together over 350 of her signature dishes, and focusing on her philosophy of using the best available seasonal produce and treating it simply, it epitomises her work as Australia’s foremost, and most loved, country cook. It’s full of seasonal, accessible recipes that haven’t dated at all and if you don’t already have it on your cookbook shelf you’ll be able to pick it up at your local library. We’re all going to love March!
So, recapping 2023 so far –

I got the email at 9am EST Wednesday morning.
Quick question about your yearly choice of Delicious – is that only the Australian website/magazine or is the UK website ok to use as well?
Amanda
If you are in Australia, I’d prefer the Australian site is used. Those living outside of Oz may not be able to access the Australian site – if not, the the UK one is okay.
