When I was in Montreal last year I was lucky enough to stay in the Intercontinental Montreal, a deliciously indulgent hotel brilliantly situated just steps away from both the old city and the new and next door to the World Trade Centre Montreal. When exploring the immediate vicinity I found myself in a huge glassed-in atrium which runs the length of what was once the city’s colonial defensive walls. There I found this remarkable remnant of another, more recent wall. Bits of the Berlin Wall have been scattered all over the world since it was torn down in November, 1989, and this stunning slab of it was gifted to the city of Montreal in 1992.

I love that it’s now become art.. 🙂
It’s quite amazing isn’t it, that there are pieces of the wall all over the figurative shop…
I think this is very cool. I think Celia’s right – what was once a symbol of oppression and the worst of man against man is now street art.
I remember the days when none of us ever thought the Berlin wall would come down. It’s amazing how parts of it are now so valuable xx
Wow!
