Longview Vineyard – Adelaide Hills Wine Tourism at it’s Best

04/07/2016 by Amanda

Head to Macclesfield in the Adelaide Hills – because when it comes to great wine, fine food and warm hospitality, the Saturno’s at Longview Vineyard are doing everything just right.

Adelaide Hills longview vineyard

Macclesfield is not really on the way to anywhere, so you’d need a reason to visit this charming little Adelaide Hills. The Saturno family of Longview Vineyard, with Mark and Peter at the helm, offer that – in spades. Located just outside of Macclesfield and situated on gently rolling slopes covered in vineyards, Longview has succeeded in creating one of South Australia’s most impressive wine tourism destinations by offering the full package – award-winning, premium wines made exclusively from estate-grown fruit, a fantastic food offering served with huge sides of genuinely welcoming hospitality and luxury accommodation with amazing views.

Making the most of a unique micro-climate, Longview produces a range of wines that extends beyond the traditional white wines the Adelaide Hills are well known for, producing some reds well worth taking note of – including the Riserva Nebbiolo, made from some of the oldest Nebbiolo grapes grown in South Australia, and the delicious Devils Elbow Cabernet Sauvignon. Their foray into the wonderful world of rosé, with the Boat Shed Nebbiolo Rosato, won me over months ago, after I first tried it at the Adelaide Hills “War of the Rosés” earlier this year.

Word is well and truly out about Longview’s fantastic Sunday Tapas menu and those who don’t bother to book may well miss out. The seasonal menu is presented by chefs Stephanie Heaven and Louise Naughton and it is almost impossible to select a favourite from the current winter menu. Each dish is perfectly executed and presented and the long, shared tables make Sunday lunch a warmly congenial affair – with new best friends just waiting to be made.

The icing on the cake for all of this is the indulgent, luxury accommodation on site. There’s no worrying about working your way through the wine list when it is just a short stroll to a comfortable, stylishly designed apartment generously kitted out with luxury toiletries, a full array of breakfast provisions and, just in case, more of Longview’s splendid wine.

So, put Longview Vineyard on your Adelaide Hills winery bucket list. They offer yet another example of exceptional South Australian wine, food and the warmest of hospitality.

Everything about your neck of the woods is just lovely. I really must schedule a cheeky trip to SA some time soon. 🙂 Even just for some of the crumbed mushrooms & house smoked sweet potato with haloumi. #drool
